Privacy policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Your goals are personal. That is why we store your personal planning on your iPhone. If you use family planning, only the shared family space is shared through Apple iCloud with the people you invite. You do not need a separate Farnow account.
This policy covers the Farnow iPhone app, the Farnow landing pages on merlingmeijer.com and contact with us about Farnow. It also describes the family features when they are available in your app version and region. Other activities on the personal website and the T-shirt shop fall outside this policy.
1. Who is responsible?
Farnow is provided by:
Merling Meijer
St. Annastraat 12A
4811 XK Breda
The Netherlands
Chamber of Commerce (KvK): 92088155
Email for privacy questions: farnow@merlingmeijer.com
Merling Meijer is responsible for the processing within Farnow, the Farnow web pages and the support we provide. Apple also processes data for its own services, such as your Apple Account, iCloud and the App Store, under Apple's terms and privacy information.
2. What data does Farnow use?
Personal planning on your iPhone
This consists of the goals, success criteria, 90-day challenges, weekly actions, progress and reflections you enter, together with associated dates and app settings. Farnow stores this planning locally and does not automatically sync it with other devices. A device backup you make through Apple or your computer may contain app data.
Shared planning through iCloud
When you create or accept a family space, Farnow processes the family name, shared goals and actions, the person responsible for each action, progress, dates and planning settings. The owner, participants, chosen display names and technical iCloud identifiers are also processed to link access and changes to the correct person.
The family plan is stored and shared through Apple's CloudKit. We do not operate a Farnow server for this purpose. Your personal planning, reflections, settings and personal backup are not automatically copied to the family space.
All authorised participants can view the contents of the shared space; participants with write access can change them. The space does not contain separate private goals that only one family member can see. Share only content that the participants may access. Because the app has free-text fields, your entries may contain sensitive information. Farnow does not ask for medical data or other special categories of personal data; do not use the app as a record for such information.
Subscriptions
Apple processes your purchase and payment. Farnow uses verified App Store transactions and subscription status to determine which features are available, including access through Apple Family Sharing. Farnow does not receive payment card details. Apple may also provide us with sales and subscription reports; these do not contain your planning content.
Support and privacy requests
When you contact us by email, we process the contact details you provide, your message and any information you choose to include, such as your app version or a screenshot with private information obscured. We use this information to handle your question or request. Do not send passwords, verification codes, private invitation links or complete planning backups.
Farnow web pages
When you visit the Farnow web pages, technical connection data is processed to deliver the page, investigate problems and prevent misuse. NL Stijl describes server logs containing information such as IP addresses, browser versions and the time of the visit. The Farnow web pages do not have a contact form. A contact form on the personal website falls outside this Farnow policy. Additional features, such as statistics or embedded content, may also process data. More information about cookies and similar technologies is available at https://merlingmeijer.com/farnow-cookies-en/.
3. Why do we process this data?
We use planning, participant and subscription data to provide the features you use. Where we are responsible for this processing, the legal basis is performance of the contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). The family features cannot work without the necessary iCloud and access data.
The legal basis for helping you use Farnow is also performance of the contract. Where necessary, general enquiries, complaint handling and essential website and app security rely on our legitimate interest in being available, resolving problems and protecting the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We take your privacy interests into account. For optional website processing that requires consent, your consent is the legal basis (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). When we must retain data by law, we process it on the basis of that legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR).
We do not use your planning content for advertising or commercial profiling. The Farnow iPhone app contains no advertisements and uses no trackers for advertising or usage analytics. This information about the app is not a cookie policy for the website. Apple may process usage and diagnostic data under its own settings and privacy policy.
4. AI and automated decisions
AI assistance is not active in this version. Farnow does not send your planning to an AI provider. Before introducing a future AI feature, we will inform you about the specific provider, data and terms, and ask for any required consent. This policy does not provide advance consent.
Farnow does not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. You choose your own goals and actions.
5. Who is data shared with?
Shared planning is available to participants who have been granted access through iCloud. Sharing an Apple subscription does not automatically make your personal or shared planning visible; separate access to the family space is required.
Apple provides iCloud/CloudKit and the App Store. We use NL Stijl for website hosting and email. The Farnow web pages use WordPress; email is sent using SMTP. Where a supplier processes personal data on our behalf, we make the required arrangements. We otherwise disclose data only where necessary to comply with a legal obligation or handle a lawful request.
Apple may process data outside the European Economic Area. Apple's privacy policy describes the applicable safeguards, including standard contractual clauses for international transfers. NL Stijl states that its hosting web servers are located in a Dutch data centre. Additional website services and plugins may have data processed by other parties, depending on how they are configured. You can contact us for information about the parties involved and safeguards for processing for which we are responsible.

6. Retention, deletion and backups
Your personal planning remains on your device until you delete or replace it. Archiving a goal or action preserves its history; it is not complete deletion. This version has no general button to erase all personal data. You can use iOS to delete the app and its local app data. Existing device backups and files you have exported must be managed separately.
A family space remains with its owner for as long as the owner keeps it. A participant can choose 'Leave family' in Farnow through Family → Family members → Family sharing. The shared content then remains with the owner. Only the owner can choose 'Delete family space'; this deletes the shared planning for all participants. Stopping sharing revokes access but preserves the owner's plan. Copies, screenshots and backups outside the app do not automatically disappear. Any retention within Apple's systems is subject to Apple's policies and applicable legal obligations.
A personal export does not contain family planning and is not encrypted by Farnow. Store and share the file carefully. An export you store with another service is also subject to that service's terms.
We delete or anonymise resolved email support correspondence no later than 12 months after the case is closed. If specific data remains necessary for a legal retention obligation or an ongoing dispute, we retain only that data for as long as that reason applies.
We retain technical website and security data only for as long as necessary to deliver the website, resolve problems or investigate misuse. We consider the nature of the problem or incident and any legal obligations. This data is not automatically retained for the same period as your support message. Supplier backups may temporarily contain deleted data; we use such copies only for recovery and security, not for new contact purposes.
Deleting the app, deleting a family space or leaving a family does not end your Apple subscription. You manage it separately through Apple.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on the processing, you can request access to, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent you have given. Contact farnow@merlingmeijer.com to make a request.
We generally respond within one month. If a lawful extension is necessary, we will tell you within that month and explain why. We ask only for the information needed to handle your request and, if necessary, verify your identity; do not send a copy of your identity document unless asked.
Because personal planning is stored locally, we cannot access or delete it remotely for you. You can create a personal export through Settings → Personal backup → Export personal backup. For questions about shared data, we can help you identify the action needed in the app or by the owner. You can also contact Apple about Apple Account or payment data. Apple's general data export is not a complete export of family planning in Farnow.
You can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (https://www.autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl) or the competent privacy regulator in your country.
8. Website and changes
More information about cookies and similar technologies on the Farnow web pages is available at https://merlingmeijer.com/farnow-cookies-en/. That information has the same Farnow scope as this privacy policy.
If the way Farnow works changes, we will update this policy. The date of the latest revision appears at the top. We will inform you appropriately before any material new processing; where consent is required, we will ask for it separately.
